Who founded volkswagon?
Volkswagen was founded by Adolf Hitler in 1937 to produce the car that would become known as the Beetle. Hitler entrusted development to Ferdinand Porsche, the founder of Porsche.
Although the Volkswagen Beetle was mainly the brainchild of Ferdinand Porsche and Adolf Hitler, the idea of a "people's car" is much older than Nazism and has existed since the mass-production of cars was introduced.
On May 28, 1937, the “Gesellschaft zur Vorbereitung des Deutschen Volkswagens mbH“ (Company for the Preparation of the German Volkswagen Ltd.) was formally established. The name was changed to “Volkswagenwerk GmbH” in 1938, and the company built its main plant in what has become Wolfsburg.
Volkswagen Group, also called Volkswagen AG, major German automobile manufacturer, founded by the German government in 1937 to mass-produce a low-priced “people's car.” Headquarters are in Wolfsburg, Germany. The company was originally operated by the German Labour Front (Deutsche Arbeitsfront), a Nazi organization.
Ted Bundy's 1968 Volkswagen Beetle
The car on display at the Museum is the car that Bundy owned. It was integral to both his murders and conviction as it contained important DNA evidence.
For two years, Ted Bundy's Volkswagen Beetle became part of his modus operandi as he performed dozens of murders, first in Washington and Oregon, then in Utah and Colorado.
In 1967, John Lennon ordered this 1300 Beetle, license number LMW 281F and used it for daily transportation. In 1969 this particular Beetle became world famous when it appeared on the cover of the Abbey Road album and gave rise to months of rumours of Paul McCartney's death because of the license number 281F.
Fifty years ago, on February 17th, 1972, the 15,007,034th Volkswagen Beetle was produced in Wolfsburg, Germany, surpassing the production record that had previously only been held by the Ford Model T.
In September 2015, the EPA announced that Volkswagen had violated the Clean Air Act by installing illegal software into their diesel vehicles. Regulators in multiple countries began to investigate the automaker, and its stock price fell in value by a third in the days immediately after the news.
Jetta. A proper example of the wind motif on Volkswagen models, the word Jetta comes from the German name for jet stream. Passat. Launched in 1973, the Passat was the first modern-era Volkswagen, and took its name from the German word “passatwinde,” or trade winds.
What does the word Volkswagen mean in German?
Volkswagen, itself, means “the people's car” in German, and speaks to the popularity of this brand. Many of the current model names also have interesting, unique meanings: Beetle: Originally dubbed the Volkswagen Type 1, this iconic car received its current name from its unique shape resembling the bug.
The logo of Volkswagen is straight and simple, yet gratifying. It consists of two letters- 'V' for volks ("people") and 'W' for wagen ("car"). The name of the company in German means "the people's car".

In a culture that embraces continuous learning and creative destruction, employees will have the confidence to try new experiences and opportunities. This allows them to examine their failures, adjust and move forward.
The Volkswagen logo has a history dating back to 1938. The VW symbol you see today is just initials of the company. Volks is a German word that means people and Wagen means car. The logo was slightly modified in 1996 and then in 2000.
Authorities convicted Bundy of murder in 1979 and sentenced him to death. He was executed on January 24, 1989 in Florida's electric chair. The Ted Bundy Volkswagen is currently on display at the Alcatraz East Crime Museum.
Not too many fans know that Al Bundy's Dodge is. actually a Plymouth.
So what happened to the car? It was sold while Bundy was still living on death row to a sheriff, Lonnie Anderson, for $925 according to Mental Floss. Anderson predicted a curve in antiques, one that supports a greed of objects used in hateful acts, also known as murderabilia. He later sold the car for $25,000.
- Bug or Beetle-Bug in the US.
- Bogár (beetle) or bogárhátú (beetle-back) in Hungary.
- 金龜車 ("Jin-guei che") in Taiwan.
- Agroga عكروكة (little frog), Rag-gah ركـّة (little turtle) in Iraq.
Nothing else is a Volkswagen. Think small.
Upon noticing the removed passenger seat, they asked to see the rest of the vehicle. Bundy agreed — and watched as they found an ice pick, a ski mask, handcuffs, and other suspicious items in his trunk. At first, the police took him as just a burglar.
How old was Ted Bundy when he died?
In the time he was in prison and waiting to be executed he helped the police investigate other murders and in 1988 he admitted to having killed eight more women than he was tried for. Bundy was executed by the use of the electric chair at the Florida State Prison on January 24, 1989. He was 42 years old.
It took mobile emissions testing rather than standardized, run-of-the-mill chassis dyno evaluations to catch on to VW's deceit—and it was pulled off by three graduate students and the director of emissions research at West Virginia University, who were working off a measly $70,000 grant.
In 1977, however, the Beetle, with its rear-mounted, air-cooled-engine, was banned in America for failing to meet safety and emission standards. Worldwide sales of the car shrank by the late 1970s and by 1988, the classic Beetle was sold only in Mexico.
It was an old white VW Bug, first registered on April 10th 1968, with the number plate LMW 28IF. It was the Volkswagen Beetle that was parked on the street when The Beatles were photographed for the cover of their "Abbey Road" album.
Available in both coupe and convertible variants, Beetle Final Edition models feature two unique colors that echo the beige and light blue colors selected for the end of the first-generation Beetle production in 2003 -- Stonewashed Blue and Safari Uni.
Volkswagen Beetle is Now Discontinued
We can only speculate as to why the Beetle is being discontinued. A likely possibility is Volkswagen switching its focus to revolutionizing the mass marketing of electric vehicles, with models like the (currently) European-only ID. 3 and the North America-produced ID.
The first Beetle arrived at the port of Veracruz in Mexico in 1954 as part of an exhibition. It was an instant hit. The success prompted the German car company to build a factory—the biggest outside of Germany—in the central state of Puebla in 1964. By 1973, a third of cars sold in Mexico were Beetles.
Seen as affordable, easy to fix and a fun ride, Mexicans scooped up 50,000 Beetles in just one year. It was quickly adopted by taxi drivers and the Volkswagen was given the diminutive nickname, vocho.
The Scandal
VW admitted to equipping more than 11 million diesel-powered cars worldwide with software designed to cheat government emissions tests. As a result, the company will have to either buy back, terminate the lease of, or modify nearly 500,000 cars sold in the US since 2009.
Former Volkswagen Group executive Oliver Schmidt, whose 2017 arrest at the Miami airport made global headlines, was released from prison after serving about half his sentence on charges related to the diesel-emissions scandal.
How long did Volkswagen go to jail for the scandal?
In 2017, the U.S.-based VW executive Oliver Schmidt, who oversaw emissions issues, was sentenced to seven years in prison and fined $400,000, the maximum possible under a plea deal the German national made with prosecutors after admitting to charges of conspiring to mislead U.S regulators and violate clean-air laws.
Jetta is a feminine name of mixed origin, locked and loaded for fast-paced living. Thanks to Volkswagen, Jetta has gathered great speed in the global arena as a German-rooted name that means "jet stream." Endowed with clear direction, Jetta may find themselves a natural director.
PUEBLA – Volkswagen's Puebla plant will temporarily stop production lines for the Jetta and Taos models due to the lack of semiconductors, informed the company.
Production started in August 1998, and its name was changed to "Jetta King" (or 大众捷达王 in Mandarin).
The name Porsche is of German origin and means 'offerings'.
大众汽车 (Dàzhòng qìchē) — Volkswagen
This Chinese translation is a fairly accurate representation of the original German name, which means “the people's car.” Nicely done.
Volkswagen Beetle
The final model of the classic automobile was named after the animal. It was established about a century ago. The Beetle is the most admired and well-loved Type 1 version, producing over 21 million units.
The truck is decorated with a large Volkswagen logo on a rainbow background. They highlight how strongly the Volkswagen Group's “We live diversity” principle is supported by everyone at Volkswagen. The number of the truck is #33. “Volkswagen stands for diversity, for open-mindedness and for tolerance.
Established in 1946, Volkswagen is a German car manufacturer that is well-known for producing quality, stylish vehicles. Whether you're a Volkswagen fanatic or a first-time customer, you will likely find the history and development of the Volkswagen brand rather intriguing.
There's no hidden meaning. VW stands for volks wagen, which is German for “people's car”. The idea for a people's car was commissioned in 1937 by Hitler.
What ethical violation did Volkswagen commit?
You are most likely familiar with the most recent Volkswagen “ethics scandal,” in which VW engineers programmed computers in their diesel cars to detect emission tests. During the tests, the vehicles would alter their engine operations to meet legal emission standards.
VWs are mostly solid, responsive, and fun-to-drive cars, with a more premium feel than their competitors. They typically have agile handling, a firm and comfortable ride, supportive seats, and good fit and finish. The company has not given up on sporty cars; it is still producing the popular GTI and even racier Golf R.
The personality of a VW driver
In terms of his attributes, he's most likely to say that he's efficient, hard-working and a perfectionist, but also admits to being demanding, over-sensitive and diffident.
The campaign, which VW describes as "emotional," drops the slogan "Das Auto" previously used by the automaker in its marketing. VW said it replaced the slogan because its new marketing focus is returning to people and their relationships with the company's products rather than on cars, design and technology.
The Volkswagen brand is one of the largest car manufacturers in the world. For more than 70 years, we have been making innovative technologies, the highest quality and attractive designs accessible to many people – with the likes of bestsellers such as the Beetle, the Golf and the all-electric ID.
"Fahrvergnügen" means "driving enjoyment" (from fahren, "to drive," and Vergnügen, "enjoyment"). The term itself is not standard German but a neologism (compound noun) created especially for this advertising campaign. One of the tag lines incorporating the word was: "Fahrvergnügen: It's what makes a car a Volkswagen".
The Group comprises ten brands from five European countries: Volkswagen, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, ŠKODA, SEAT, CUPRA, Audi, Lamborghini, Bentley, Porsche and Ducati. In addition, the Volkswagen Group offers a wide range of further brands and business units including financial services.
The 'Volkswagen' is born
On 22 June 1934, Ferdinand Porsche secured the contract from the "RDA - Reichsverband der Deutschen Automobilindustrie" (Automobile Industry Association of the Reich) to develop the Volkswagen which would shape future developments at Porsche for years to come.
Most problems start to appear once there are many miles on the car, something other car brands can't say. Overall, Volkswagen is an excellent choice for a car, as it's reliable, affordable, and won't leave drivers going to a mechanic repeatedly. It's been a solid choice for many years and many more years to come.

How did Volkswagen get so big?
VW soon became reliant on exports, selling over 27,000 cars to 17 countries in 1950. By 1955 this figure had escalated to over 147,000 cars sold in 45 different countries.
Volkswagen went on a sports car company buying spree in 1998, first scooping up Lamborghini. During that year, it also paid $790 million for Bentley, and an estimated $50 million for Bugatti.
The VW group is one of the largest automotive brands in the world and is based in Germany. They have teams of engineers that are responsible for the design of all of the engines that will be used in Volkswagen, Audi, Porsche, Bentley, Bugatti, and Lamborghini.
On 15 December 1945, French authorities arrested Porsche, Anton Piëch, and Ferry Porsche as war criminals, under rightful suspicion of collaboration as personal friends of the former fuhrer. While Ferry was freed after 6 months, Ferdinand and Anton were imprisoned first in Baden-Baden and then in Paris and Dijon.
Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG (which stands for Doktor Ingenieur honoris causa Ferdinand Porsche Aktiengesellschaft), as a 100% subsidiary of Volkswagen AG, is responsible for the actual production and manufacture of the Porsche automobile line.
Ferdinand Porsche founded the Porsche car company in 1931. In the early 1920s, he oversaw the development of the Mercedes compressor car and later developed the first designs of the Volkswagen car with his son.
According to motorask.com, a Volkswagen that is cared for properly should last 100,000 - 200,000 miles. Some have lasted far beyond that. A few of the factors that can influence how long a Volkswagen lasts include: The particular model purchased.

Volkswagen, itself, means “the people's car” in German, and speaks to the popularity of this brand.
Does Elon Musk own Bugatti?
No, the Tesla CEO has not bought Andrew Tate's Bugatti seized by cops. However, the rumors might have sparked after Musk's previous jibe at the controversial social media influencer.
